OK CLEAN WATER PROJECT CELEBRATES 10 YEARS OF CLEAN WATER
We want to share the good news that the OK CLEAN WATER PROJECT is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year – 2013. We are celebrating access to clean drinking water in six Bui sub-divisions.
From 2003 to 2013, the OK Clean Water Project has worked with 36 villages in 6 subdivisions of the North West Region of Cameroon.
Water is now flowing to 43 schools and 13 health posts.
28 catchments have been built or repaired.
162 public standpipes have been constructed or repaired
More than 123 km of pipes have been laid.
This project is a partnership between the OK Clean Water Committee and the villages which has enabled the limited funds available to be used most effectively. The project has Canadian (Ottawa) and Cameroonian (Kumbo) coordinators who work closely together, hence the name “O.K”.
The founding members of the OK Clean Water Project in Canada were Sisters of the Congregation of Notre Dame, CND Associates and friends.
In Kumbo, Cathy Molloy and Visi Edwin work cooperatively with the Water Committes in each of the villages. In Ottawa, volunteer members comprising Carmel Horan, Evelyn Musonge, Louise Garby , Hilder Langwa, Kathy Monkman, Bernie O'Neill, Jim Yan , Maureen Ramsay and George Garby design events and other fundraising activities.
