OK Clean Water Celebrates Another Successful Year with Ottawa Catholic Schools!
The OK Clean Water Project is most grateful to the Ottawa Catholic Schools who have supported our water project in Kumbo, Cameroon again in the school year 2014-2015. This year twenty-five schools brought in an amazing $31,264.50! The schools were given a power point presentation including photos, commentary and statistics on the number of villages, pipes, storage tanks, schools and health clinics served by the project. The students and teachers were most creative in their fundraising engaging in such activities as walk-a-thons, read-a-thons, spirit days, coin lines, bake sales, chores at home and other interesting activities to raise money for OK Clean Water Project.Presently forty-three villages have clean water and more villagers are waiting in hope. As well as providing the materials and planning for the village projects the Cameroonian engineer, Edwin Visi, provides workshops to the villagers to ensure that the sustainability of each village project is maintained. The villagers are responsible for the manual labour to bring the clean water from the springs up in the hills through pipes laid in trenches into the villages. As well they are to make any repairs and other maintenance required.
This year 2014-2015, the following schools have been supportive of the project:
Uplands Catholic, Dr. F.J. McDonald, Good Shepherd, McMaster Catholic, St. Michael- Fitzroy Harbour, St. Gabriel, St. Jerome, St. Daniel, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, St. Bernard, Holy Spirit, St. Augustine, St. John the Apostle, St. George, T.D. We are most grateful to all staff, student and parents for your ongoing support and concern for our brothers and sisters in our global community.
